In a recent statement via his official X account, human rights activist and political commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has reacted to the removal of Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Shehu described the development as part of deeper political permutations and emerging dynamics, according to him, Ganduje’s earlier escape from ministerial screening was due to scandals.
Initially Ganduje was a ministerial appointee as FCT minister, but with his excess baggage messy land deal and Dollar stashed in pocket bribe cases before the EFCC, he was saved the likely disgrace before the Senate if he appears for screening.
From the date of his appointment as APC chairman, those who are conversant with politics of uncertainty in Nigeria knew that, it will be a matter of time before he is shown the way out having served the purpose of the master.
With Ganduje no more calling the shots in APC , Kwankwaso can conveniently decamp along with the Governor to APC. Doing that will have a triple barrel effect: Abba’s second term will be guaranteed, Sanusi Lamido and his other co-Emirs can sleep with their two eyes open(3) Kwankwaso will take over the entire Kano APC structure,” Mahdi Shehu wrote.
Shehu stated that Ganduje’s time as APC chairman was expected to be short-lived.
Shehu claimed that Ganduje’s removal will open the door for former Kano governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to decamp to APC, explaining that it would boost Abba Yusuf’s second term chances and restore influence to Sanusi Lamido and other Emirs.
He predicted that Ganduje may join ADA and stated that Kwankwaso will assert control over the Kano APC structure, and that traditional power dynamics will shift.
