The Cure or Vaccine from Africa, Europe, America, Asia, Austr.?
The cure or vaccine for Covid -19 can come from any part of the world. But what is Africa doing about it in a situation where our leaders are appealing for debt forgiveness from the creditor nations and organisations and some of our people are condemning the few amongst us who have the boldness to say that they have made great progress towards getting the cure.
If these claims of cure are from the Whiteman, these few opposing group and government would have embraced it with speed. Must Africa always wait for every solution from the Whiteman? No!
We have scientists among us and they are intelligent and knowledgeable too. I know this for sure. What we lack is that supreme confidence in ourselves.
I have regards for the Whiteman because they have this supreme confidence in themselves.
It is a laudable thing to go into research works and come out with solutions. I remember when I was working on my thesis project as an undergraduate at the Obafemi Awolowo University, my Professor said to me then, that, if it was my Masters degree program, the question would have been that; “what have you added to knowledge?” Is there any new creativity, new innovations, new solutions and so on. It is not about waiting for other people for all the solutions to any of our challenges. It is about we doing something to help ourselves and then, if after making laudable effort help is still needed, there is no harm or shame in making request where necessary. Nobody knows it all except God. But we must try first. We have to think out of the box now.
What is African scientists adding to the quest to finding solutions to Coronavirus pandemic? We must not underrate ourselves. We are a great and intelligent people although the required funding may be the roadblock now, yet we have to subdue it.
The Herbal (called traditional) medicine in Nigeria and indeed Africa is efficacious though it is not yet perfect. Many of the people that are condemning the solutions from Africans (both modern and traditional scientists) were at some time duringtheir growing up periods treated on “\u00c0gbo” (the popular herb concoction that has been very helpful for generations) and yet they are alive and doing well today. What is needed is how to covert the findings of the traditional scientists to empirical data for scientific analysis and test. This is undoubtedly achievable. Both the modern and traditional medicines are good. The two can be improved upon at any time.
How much Funds had the various governments in Africa voted to finding the cure or vaccine for Covid -19 pandemic beside the currently inadequate palliative measures being given out to poor and vunerable people in a general lockdown situation?
What encouragement has the governments given out to the few audacious solution providers in terms of moral boosting, adequate funding, enabling environment among others?
If three to five billion naira is devoted to the course of finding cure or vaccine for Covid -19, Lassa fever and any other diseases out of the donations already received ( about #30bn now), it should just be alright. A target should be giving to the scientists to achieve within a specified timeframe so that corrupt politicians will not hijack the money and share it quietly.
We have to wake-up to our responsibilities and be on top of the task before us so that a way to overrun us again will not be opened should there be an outburst of the virus. God forbid it happening.
At this point now, to prevent any further spread of Covid -19 is even more germane than the search for its cure or vaccine. It is said that ” prevention is cheaper than getting a cure.” Altogether, the cure or vaccine needs to be found.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
