{"id":361,"date":"2025-07-05T10:10:30","date_gmt":"2025-07-05T10:10:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kingjoseph.live\/?p=361"},"modified":"2025-07-05T19:09:23","modified_gmt":"2025-07-05T19:09:23","slug":"natasha-akpoti-consider-to-recall-her-back-to-senate-fed-high-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kingjoseph.live\/?p=361","title":{"rendered":"NATASHA-AKPOTI: CONSIDER RECALLING HER BACK TO THE SENATE &#8212;FED HIGH COURT"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/kingjoseph.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Senate-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-362\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kingjoseph.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Senate-1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/kingjoseph.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Senate-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A Federal High Court in Abuja has affirmed the power of the Senate to discipline any member for unethical conduct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Justice Binta Nyako, in a judgment on Friday, held that under the Senate Rules, the Senate President is empowered to allocate seats for members and such a member is only allowed to speak from the seat allocated to him or her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Justice Nyako found that since Natasha was not speaking from the sit allocated to her during the Senate\u2019s sitting of February 20, she was not entitled to be heard&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The judge held that although the Senate could suspend its members, it should reconsider the period of such suspension.<br>She urged the Senate to consider recalling her to afford her the opportunity to represent her constituency and for her to also apologise to the Senate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier, Justice Nyako found her guilty of contempt and fined her N5million to be paid to the coffers of the Federal Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The judge found Natasha to have violated an order of the court made on April 4 restraining parties from commenting on the subject of the pending suit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The judge held that by posting a satirical letter on her Facebook page on April 27 while the April 4 order subsisted, Natasha was in contempt of court&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The judge said since Natasha is found guilty of contempt in a civil case, thereby making it a civil contempt she would not be sent to prison but made to pay a fine and offer public apology to the court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Justice Nyanko ordered Natasha to pay N5m to the coffers of the Federal Government and publish public apology in two national dailies and her Facebook page within seven days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Federal High Court in Abuja has affirmed the power of the Senate to discipline any member for<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"wpupg_custom_link":[],"wpupg_custom_link_behaviour":[],"wpupg_custom_link_nofollow":[],"wpupg_custom_image":[],"wpupg_custom_image_id":[],"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-361","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-political-12345"],"aioseo_notices":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/kingjoseph.live\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/361","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/kingjoseph.live\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/kingjoseph.live\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kingjoseph.live\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kingjoseph.live\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=361"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/kingjoseph.live\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/361\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":365,"href":"https:\/\/kingjoseph.live\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/361\/revisions\/365"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/kingjoseph.live\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=361"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kingjoseph.live\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=361"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kingjoseph.live\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=361"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
